I am born and raised in Toronto. Growing up in a
fortunate country like Canada, I am used to the
accessibility of fresh water and wide variety of food.
Visiting the Gawad Kalinga Villages had changed my
perspective on the way most people live in the world.
Most of the people in the world live and breathe in
impoverished environments unlike the majority of
people who live in Western Hemisphere. It was a
humbling experience where I had a first-hand
glimpse of the struggles that these poor people go
through. On the other hand, I was also able to
experience the joy as they transform their lives one
cement block at a time and rebuild for a better future.
It was rewarding to be a part of the rebuilding.
I believe that the positive philosophy that Gawad
Kalinga orchestrates in the Philippines can be
adopted in other Third Countries to bring hope for a
better livelihood.
What is GK to Lori:
For your comments:
"Gawad Kalinga is not only about building houses, it is about building homes and empowering lives for the better. They empower the people by providing shelter, health, education, livelihood, values formation, and community empowerment programs, all of these encompass the positive transformation they undertake."
